AFRICANGLOBE – Two African students have created a malaria-repellant soap using local herbs, and have won, consequently, a $25,000 Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) award.

The GSVC is the only international competition of Social Business Plans, dedicated to students, young graduates, and entrepreneurs with high social and/or environmental startups.

Philadelphia introduces LGBT reform bill with sweeping trans inclusion measures:

Philadelphia City Councilman Jim Kenney has introduced a bill that will dramatically increase protections for LGBT people in the city, but especially transgender people.

The measure was originally meant to add on to Philadelphia’s existing domestic-partner laws, but the new bill also includes provisions mandating gender-neutral bathrooms, banning discrimination based on gender identity and expression, and giving extra support to companies who offer health benefits for employees’ domestic partners.

The legislation mandates that any new building constructed by the city must include gender-neutral bathrooms and that gender-neutral bathrooms be established at current city properties when bathroom renovations are undertaken.

One year from its passage, the legislation would require all new city forms to be gender-neutral, except under special circumstances, such as if the gender designations are required by state or federal law.

The city’s Fair Practices Ordinance, which enforces the LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination law, would be amended to specifically prohibit employers from failing to permit employees to dress in accordance with their gender identity. The public-accommodations section of the law would also be changed to ban entities from refusing or denying “any person access to any separate-gender bathroom where the person’s gender identity is consistent with the gender for which such bathroom is reserved.”

Zam, this is all incredibly impressive. As the article notes, the last big milestone is addressing trans discrimination in health care, but the way Philly’s going, that hopefully won’t be too far off.

Potential: capable of being or becoming

Potential.

That is a word God himself created just for you, to describe all that you can be, but somehow aren’t, at least not yet.

I see all that.

Every possibility, opportunity, turn, energy, nexus, twist. I see infinity and all that love in your eyes. I’m not even sure you see it, but I do.

You said, it’s not me, it’s you. Then proceeded to laugh at the potential of your words. Obviously, it wasn’t me. I knew that.

Potential.

Again, it all faded. Never to be seen in this world.

Not like you?

Perhaps.

But only because the you I see in front of me isn’t the you who could be. But then again, maybe it’s a matter of knowing too much.

I would do anything just to see your potential fulfilled.

Even if that means letting you, not for the first time, but for the third time, walk away from me.
